Leonie Gibbs Biography

Leonie Gibbs British Contemporary Artist

Leonie Gibbs BA ARBS

Leonie Gibbs has lived most of her life in Scotland; myths, legends and her love of wild animals have been the most formative influences on her work. With her strong sense of modelling and dynamic movement, her figures inhabit an imaginative world of storytelling and action played out against the wild romantic landscape of her Scottish roots.

Leonie trained in Fine Art in Edinburgh and Wimbledon Colleges of Art 1908 – 1984.  She has had numerous one man shows in the Bruton Street Gallery, displaying both painting and sculpture. Leonie has exhibited widely in Scotland, including in the Scottish Royal Academy and in England.  Her major commissions include pieces for Gleneagles Hotel, the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Tarbat Discovery Centre.

Where is my studio? My studio is where I am….
In Jerusalem overlooking the golden dome of the rock,
In the Camargue with white horses amongst the blossom trees,
In St Mark’s Square in Venice,
In Mousehole looking down on the harbour and across to St Michael’s Mount,
In the Highlands and Hampshire.
Just observing life and painting it.
I am my studio.

Leonie lives in the North of Scotland with her family.  Her work is in numerous private collections in the UK and the USA
