ARTISTIC PRACTICE:

Francis Bowyer's artistic practice encompasses watercolour, oil, and mixed media, showcasing his ability to create evocative and dynamic compositions. He finds inspiration in familiarity and often chooses subjects that he knows and understands, such as his own allotment. Bowyer's watercolour works particularly highlight moments of drama or interesting movement, drawing the viewer into his paintings through their vividness and expressiveness.

PALETTE AND TECHNIQUE:

Francis Bowyer's artistic process reflects a dynamic and intuitive approach. He describes his palette as somewhat chaotic, often incorporating a wide range of colors. He points out that, “you need to allow strange oddities to occur; it’s rather nice.”  This experimentation allows him to respond spontaneously to his subject, embracing unexpected and serendipitous outcomes. Bowyer finds joy in the creative process and believes that keeping his options open throughout allows for the emergence of intriguing and unique elements within his paintings.
