British Art Portfolio – Louise Newton and Amanda Lowther
Louise Newton worked for many years in the commercial gallery sector, principally with Browse & Darby in Cork Street who specialise in Modern British Art and Post Impressionists. She also worked at Frost & Reed in King Street, London. Whilst her children were growing up Louise pursued a career as a professional photographer and then in 2008 she fulfilled a long-held ambition to read History of Art at university, specialising in all periods of British Art. She graduated in June 2011 with a first class honours degree from Leicester University.
“This is what I have always wanted to do – from the moment I left London in 1992 I hoped to set up my own art business and with Amanda’s help this is what we have achieved.”
Amanda Lowther has had a life-long passion for British art, paints regularly and has exhibited in several joint shows over the last 15 years. She completed a foundation course at Rugby College, and has studied fine art at the Richard Attenborough Centre in Leicester as well at the Prince’s Drawing School in London. In 2011 she gained a first class honours degree in History of Art from Leicester University, where she focused on British Art, both painting and sculpture, from the 20th Century.
“Having spent the last 5 years immersed in Modern British and contemporary art, I feel it is like a dream come true.”
British Art Portfolio
British Art Portfolio was launched in September 2011 and in our eigth year is still going strong. As the name suggests, British Art Portfolio provides a selection of Modern British and contemporary paintings and sculpture available for purchase. 20th Century British art has been enjoying something of a renaissance recently and we feel that this increase in popularity reflects the very good value that many artists of the 20th Century represent. We think and hope works of this period are a worthy investment to be included in anyone’s portfolio as well as being enjoyed. In addition, we will be representing a selection of not only established contemporary artists, but also some who we feel will make their mark on the world of painting and sculpture.
Our collection will be permanently on view at Amanda’s home in Guilsborough and we will stick to our modus operandum of travelling around the country with a selection of our paintings, holding about four exhibitions over the year. We have met some delightful artists, we travel all over the country to some amazing houses, where we have been warmly welcomed by our generous hosts and we have helped to raise a considerable amount for charity along the way.
We have made many new friends and have established a real following in some areas, where we have held annual or biennial exhibitions and we are looking forward to another interesting year in 2019.
Paintings can be viewed by appointment at Guilsborough and we welcome anyone for coffee and a relaxed viewing with no pressure to purchase. Works can be taken on approval providing a deposit is left.
We would also be delighted to undertake or advise on the buying or selling of works of art by private commission
