About

  • The Gallery

We founded British Art Portfolio in November 2011, following our History of Art degrees at the University of Leicester. Driven by a shared passion for 20th and 21st-century British art and sculpture, we decided to launch our own independent art gallery, specialising exclusively in original, contemporary British art and sculpture. Our founding mission remains unchanged: to bring beautiful, inspiring original artwork to Northamptonshire and the wider East Midlands.

Nestled in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside, our Guilsborough Gallery has established itself as a vibrant hub in the local and national art world. We host highly anticipated biannual exhibitions in the Spring and Autumn, showcasing a curated collection of fine art paintings, engravings, sculpture and ceramics. Our show this Autumn in November will mark our 15th Anniversary! We are delighted to have supported a wide range of charities, holding a cash collection and donating a portion of proceeds with each exhibition. Most recently, we partnered with Maggie’s Northampton and Young Leicestershire who do incredible work in our local area,

Beyond our exhibitions, we take great pleasure in helping clients find the perfect investment pieces for their homes or sourcing bespoke gifts, as well as providing full logistics support and safe shipping across the UK and internationally. We frequently collaborate with interior designers on both residential and commercial projects and offer a popular ‘try before you buy’ home trial service to ensure absolute confidence in every acquisition. To support the next generation of collectors, we also provide flexible, interest-free payment terms for young buyers under 40, allowing the cost of a purchase to be spread over three to four months.

While our major exhibitions are seasonal highlights, visitors are welcome throughout the year. We are always delighted to arrange private gallery viewings by appointment between exhibitions where there will always be exceptional British art on display to discover.

  • Louise Newton Amanda Lowther

    The Partners

Both Amanda and Louise have backgrounds in British Art both Contemporary & Modern British.

Louise worked for many years at the gallery Browse & Darby in Cork Street where she learnt to love all Modern British art  – the gallery specialised in works by Walter Sickert, William Nicholson, Matthew Smith amongst the many luminaries of that period.  She came across the wonderful Gallery artists of the 80s & 90s – Andrew Farmer, Anthony Eyton, Philip Sutton, Diana Armfield, Anthony Fry, Patrick George, Patrick Symons.  Many are still painting today and British Art Portfolio has an example of Anthony Eyton’s work of which they are very proud – a street scene painted in Sudan – very evocative of his work,  (click here to see more). Anthony Eyton is still painting and is well into his 90’s!

Amanda has had a life-long passion for contemporary British art, she paints regularly and has exhibited at several joint shows over the last fifteen years.  She completed a foundation course at Rugby College and has studied fine art at the Richard Attenborough Centre in Leicester as well as the Prince’s Drawing School in London.
