I am an abstract painter whose work is inspired by places I know well and
love. Working mainly from memory and imagination, I aim to capture the
feeling, atmosphere and happiness that particular landscapes evoke.
Lines and squares often find their way into my paintings, creating
structure. The process is driven by choice - colour, shape, balance and
rhythm. I enjoy the challenge of making these decisions as a painting
develops.
Born in Cumbria and raised on a rural farm, I spent much of my childhood
outdoors. Nature became ingrained in me from an early age and
continues to influence my work. I now live in Suffolk, where the beautiful
coastline, woodland walks, marshland, changing light and rugged coast
provide a constant source of inspiration.
I discovered the joy of painting while sitting on the rocks in Cornwall with
my goddaughter. Inspired by that experience, I enrolled on a Foundation
Course at Suffolk Art College and have been hooked ever since. In recent
years, I have been able to devote more time to painting and developing
my practice.
I am drawn to simplicity rather than complexity, and I hope my paintings
convey a sense of calm, emotion and a personal response to the places
that matter to me
