Jessica Gale Biography

Jessica Gale Contemporary Artist

Jessica Gale

Born 1967, Catterick, Yorkshire.

Jessica began to paint in 2010 during a spell of living in Amsterdam. Spurred on by the dark, quiet beauty of a Dutch winter, she was strongly influenced by the brooding mood of Rembrandt’s work.

Jessica has lived in many places, owing to her father’s career as a Surgeon in the British Army.  Perhaps as a result the focus of her work is diverse.  She enjoys producing both representational and abstract work. ‘I bounce around from painting landscape en plein air, to painting a bull in my studio in London.  I am particularly drawn to the natural world, the great outdoors.  Wherever I have lived, be it Hong Kong, Singapore, Cyprus, Germany, France, the Netherlands or the UK, I have always felt the pull of nature, and enjoy the opportunity to observe’.

In both her abstract and representational work, Jessica likes to investigate the dynamics of what is in front of her – the shapes, the light, the negative spaces – and then manipulate it, whether it is through form or colour.

Jessica likes to vary her media; from acrylic and oil paints, to charcoal, pastels and printmaking.

She lives and work in London and Dorset, UK.
